Advisory Council

The Advisory Council provides advice on program strategy, activities, governance and outreach which shall strengthen IPLP initiative on Indigenous Peoples Affected by Protected Areas and Other Conservation Measures.

The Advisory Council is composed of individuals with relevant expertise and experience on

  • international human rights law and indigenous peoples,
  • environmental related issues
  • establishment and management of protected and conservation areas, who serve in their personal capacity.


The members of the council are appointed for a two -year term renewable once, with due regard to equitable geographical distribution, gender balance and expertise. Advisory Council members have complementary skills diverse experience and representation in:  addressing human violations of indigenous peoples at local, national, regional and global levels; using international human rights mechanisms, fostering and implementing partnerships with Indigenous Peoples, other human rights organizations, advocates, non-state actors and state actors and donors; environmental issues management of protected areas and national parks, indigenous peoples approaches relevant to addressing conservation and the protection of their lands and resources, Organizational development and campaign management; Communications; Governance and capacity building; Strategy development. The Advisory Council is currently composed by 11 individuals acting in their personal capacity.
